As a youngster growing up in Wisconsin I developed a passion for biking up and down the bluffs of the Mississippi River valley. However, while going to the University of Stevens Point, my passion faded due to the lack of anything that resembled a hill. As soon as I graduated in 2002, I took a job with the Forest Service and moved to the small mountain town of Quincy, CA. A good friend told me about Downieville and how incredible he heard the trails were supposed to be, so we dusted off our bikes and went to see for ourselves. With each passing mile from rocky alpine to oaky foothills, along pristine creeks and old growth trees, I instantly fell back in love with mountain biking.
Mountain biking is now fully engrained in me. I have been volunteering with the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship for several years helping with events and creating new trails. This year I have been given the opportunity to become part of the iconic Yuba Expedition bike shop. We have a great team here and I’m super stoked to be a part of it.
Born and raised on the SF peninsula, Chris found his love for two wheels and the outdoors when he started working at REI in 2003. His growing addiction to two wheels led him to manage Palo Alto Bicycles for six years. When the congestion and crowds of the Bay Area became too great a burden, he and his wife moved to Quincy. When he is not outside enjoying the Lost Sierra, find him at the Yuba Expeditions Adventure Center helping others maximize their time enjoying Dirt Magic.
Being born in Truckee and coming from a bike racing family heritage, there was no escaping bikes or the mountains. Straddling the Sierras between Nevada and California, his passion for bikes, snow and mountains grew. Over the years he would live in many states working in every aspect of the bike industry. Suffering a little two wheel burnout, he moved to Hawaii to pursue his passion of surfing. Not long after he was drawn back into bikes as a race mechanic for Ironman and Xterra World Champs. After a while, longing for the mountains he landed in Hood River Oregon to run a shop for a few years, while exploring the PNW trails. While working remotely, he traveled around a few years with his wife and 2 dogs in their van, riding a new trail everyday, sneaking in some surfing and snowboarding. Then it became time to find a piece of land to call home. Coming back to the Sierras was full circle for both of them, he now calls Quincy home. You can find him riding his bike or backcountry snowboarding in the Lost Sierra, always smiling and ready to help out another rider in need..
